Future Schools Project Celebrates Double Award Success

The Future Schools Project has achieved an exciting milestone, winning two awards in recognition of its contribution to positive change within the equestrian industry.

The project has been a valuable learning experience, helping the team develop a deeper understanding of the science behind how horses learn and how this knowledge can shape everyday practice. By challenging traditional approaches and exploring evidence-based ways of working, the project has encouraged a more thoughtful, informed and horse-centred approach to care, training and interaction.

A key part of this journey has been fostering a no-blame, no-shame culture, where people feel safe to ask questions, challenge existing ideas, make mistakes and learn. This supportive environment enables meaningful reflection and creates opportunities for lasting change.

The project has reinforced an important message: once we understand more about how horses learn and experience the world, we have an opportunity to put that knowledge into practice and improve their lives.

The team is incredibly proud to have played a part in this forward-thinking initiative and is grateful to everyone who has helped make it possible.

Particular thanks go to the ABRS for leading this important work across riding schools, Lisa Ashton for the design and delivery of the project, British Equestrian for its support, and Sport England for providing the funding.

While the two awards are a wonderful achievement, the lasting impact of the project lies in the positive changes it inspires – supporting continued learning, better-informed decisions and improved welfare for horses.
